Payment Hold

Learn how to place a hold on your customer's card

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Hold an amount on your customer’s card without charging it immediately. Decide within 7 days whether to charge the amount or reverse the hold.

How it Works

Activate the Charge Card Later option to hold a specified amount on your customer’s card. Share the payment link with your customer. Once the hold is placed, you have 7 days to take action:

  • Charge: Charge the full or partial amount, depending on your needs.

  • Reverse: Release the hold and return the amount to the customer.

If no action is taken, the hold is automatically reversed after 7 days.

Fees

  • Hold: No fee.

  • Charge: Standard transaction fees based on your plan.

  • Reverse: Small fee applies (see our pricing page for details).

Notifications

Receive notifications at key stages:

  • Hold placed: Both you and the customer get notified when the hold is placed.

  • Hold reversed: Email confirmation when the hold is released.

  • Hold charged: Standard payment receipts sent when the hold is charged.

  • Reminder: Get a reminder 24 hours before the hold expires if no action is taken.
