Payment hold

Learn how to place a hold on your customer's card

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Hold an amount on your customer’s card without charging it immediately. Decide within 7 days whether to charge the amount or reverse the hold.

Creating a payment link to hold an amount

When creating the payment link, navigate to Advanced settings, and toggle on the Charge card later option. Share the payment link with your customer. Once the customer used the payment link, the hold is in place and you have 7 days to take action.

Charging or reversing a hold

Once the customer used the payment link, the transaction will appear in your payments dashboard with a status of 'On hold'. Click into the payment, and select Charge or Reverse in the top right corner.

  • Charge: Charge the full or partial amount, depending on your needs.

  • Reverse: Release the hold and return the amount to the customer.

If no action is taken, the hold is automatically reversed after 7 days.

Fees

If you place a hold and end up charging the customer within the 7 day window, standard transaction fees will apply as per your plan.

If you place a hold and reverse it, or do not take any action, hold charges will apply. See our pricing page for details.
