Subscriptions

Learn about subscriptions, subscription automation and more.

Updated over 2 months ago

Businesses often use subscriptions as part of their payment model. Manually managing these payments can become increasingly complex as your customer base grows.

Setting up subscriptions enables you to automate regular payments for your recurring products and services, straight from your dashboard.

Mamo provides tools to customize and automate many aspects of your subscription management, including fixed scheduling, automated payment reminders, and retries, reducing the administrative overhead associated with this process.

Create a subscription

To create a subscription:

  1. Log into the dashboard and navigate to Payments > Subscriptions

  2. Select New subscription in the top right corner

Subscriptions can have customized titles, descriptions, amounts, and schedules.

They can also have customized redirections to a success page of your choosing. Users will reach this page after the subscription is set up and payment is made. Simply add a link that directs the customer to any destination you desire.

Share a subscription payment link

Simply copy your subscription link and share it with your customers to subscribe. You can include it in emails, social media, or direct messages.

Reminders and notifications

Customers will receive an automatic email notification 5 days before they are charged. Followed by a receipt after the amount has been charged. You can track all subscriptions by visiting Payments on the main menu.

Pause a subscription for a specific customer

If a customer wishes to temporarily stop being billed, you have the option to pause an active subscription for that customer, and then resume it once they're ready to start paying again.

To pause a subscription:

  1. Click into the active subscription you wish to pause for a subscriber

  2. Scroll down to All subscribers

  3. Find the subscriber whose payments you want to pause, and either

    1. Quick pause: Click on the three dots and select Pause subscription, OR

    2. Manage subscriber: Click into the customer, select the three dots in the top right corner, and select Pause subscription from there

To resume a subscription, follow the same process as above and select Resume subscription.

⚠️ Important notes on paused subscriptions:

  • Pausing payments on a subscription does not initiate a partial refund to the customer if they pause before the next payment date.

  • Similarly, resuming payments for a customer does not charge partial or pro-rated payments if they resume after the previous payment date.

  • Pausing/resuming doesn't change the scheduled dates for future payments you've configured on the overall subscription.

  • Pausing/resuming could change the end date of a subscription for that customer depending on the subscription configuration:

    • If the subscription ends after a fixed number of payments, the end date is extended until all payments are completed

    • If the subscription ends on a specific date, then the end date remains the same regardless of when payments are paused and resumed.

Disable a subscription

To disable a subscription:

  1. From Payments > Subscriptions, view your Active subscriptions

  2. Find the subscription you want to disable, and either

    1. Quick disable: Click on the three dots and select Disable recurring payment, OR

    2. Manage subscription: Click into the subscription, select the three dots in the top right corner, and select Disable recurring payment from there

Once you've disabled a subscription, the payment link is immediately disabled, and an email notification is sent to the customers of that subscription payment. After this is done, customers will no longer be charged for any future upcoming payments.

Cancel a subscription

Customers can request the cancelation of their subscription directly from the business owner. If you are the customer and the business owner is unresponsive, you can contact Mamo using the Chat for help.

Failed subscription payments

If a subscription payment fails, you’ll need to create a separate payment link and share it with the customer to fulfill the failed payment.

The subscription structure will not be broken and will continue as it should, meaning any subsequent payments will be collected per the set schedule.

Both the business owner and the customer will get notified via email if a payment fails. You can also find the failed payment on your dashboard.

For easy access, you can use the search and filter function in the Payments category to search for failed payments using the payment ID or customer name.

Alternatively, you can follow the below steps to see details of a failed subscription:

  1. Select the subscription to investigate.

  2. Select the name of the customer.

  3. Find and select the failed payment under All payments > Settlement status.

Update an existing subscription

Currently, we don't have the ability to edit existing subscription details and settings. You can only cancel a subscription or disable it.

Our team is constantly working on improving our services and we hope to offer a suspension feature very soon!
